Staying Healthy & Happy Through The Holiday

De-Stress This Holiday Season

It is hard to believe that 2021 is winding down and that the holiday season is upon us. While many are looking forward to finally reuniting with their loved ones to celebrate, this time of year can also bring upon a lot of stress. Stress can lead to a plethora of health related issues from weight gain to anxiety. Thankfully, Carillon has a team of experts and services to help you destress in order to keep you happy and healthy over the holidays and well into the New Year.

Balance Your Body

Keeping your body functioning at peak performance just got a bit easier thanks to the team at the biostation, the leaders in age management and total wellness which now has a location at Carillon. This team of functional medicine provider scan help you address how to balance your body via a series of proven approaches. After an initial diagnostic blood work and an initial consultation, the team will provide a highly individualized treatment plan to set you on a wellness and healing journey to your best health. Worried about holiday weight gain? the biostation also offers programs to help you quickly and effectively lose stubborn stored body fat, as well as help you develop healthy eating choices. And if you do gain a few unwanted pounds during the season, try not to stress over it as stress can cause your cortisol levels (the stress hormone) to rise which can lead to (even more) weight gain, anxiety, fatigue, poor sleep.

Here are some tips to help you stay the course while enjoying your holiday season:

  • Get In Daily Movement – You don’t have to hit the gym daily, but you should keep your body in motion. Whether it be a stroll on the boardwalk, some light yoga, or even being mindful of parking your car farthest from the entrance to get in extra steps, keeping your body in motion will keep it burning.
  • Plan Ahead – If you want to partake in a festive meal, plan your day around it making sure to take in lots of healthy, lean proteins and veggies, and lots of water throughout the day. It’s better to eat healthy prior rather than deprive yourself all day as you will most likely be hungry and then over indulge.
  • Limit Alcohol – Alcohol has a lot of sneaky calories and can leave you with a hangover, which will affect your productivity, movement and healthy food choices the next day. Be sure to know your limit and drink a glass of water in between drinks. And if you have a lot of holiday celebrations, consider having seltzer water with lemon or lime some nights. Alcohol has a lot of sneaky calories that can add up fast.

You can also keep energy up and burn fat fast with a quick visit to the biostation for a bLean nutrient injection that helps to stimulate fat loss with a specialized formula to help your body burn fat for energy.

A Health Boost With a Side of Zen

Seeking a health boost with a side of zen?  A visit to Dr. Irina Logman, DACM LAc, leading the Advanced Holistic Center for an immune boosting acupuncture session or series will help your body fight off seasonal illness. Studies show regular acupuncture treatments can help to increase your body’s T cell count, the cells that protect you from infection like harmful bacteria and viruses. Acupuncture has also been proven to calm stress and anxiety, making it the perfect addition to your holiday wellness routine. If you can’t make it to an acupuncturist, try Dr. Irina Logman’s tips to stay stress free:

  • Meditate –  This looks differently for everyone. For some it could look like a full meditation session in a dark room and for others it could be  just taking a few moments to take a few deep breaths.. However you choose to meditate, make it daily practice to help calm the body.
  • Eat Your Stress Away – By eating nutrient dense foods rich in vitamins and nutrients like  Zinc, Vitamin C, Magnesium, Calcium and B vitamins you can reduce oxidative stress and strengthen your immunity. Opt for organic vegetables,  fruits such as papaya and pineapple, or citrus fruits for Vitamin C and avocados, bananas and almonds for Magnesium.
